Cafe Blu, the Democratic-themed Vietnamese coffee shop that opened in Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s old Harbor Blvd headquarters has closed due to poor sales. The coffee bar, which served strong coffee and smoothies, could not compete with the nearby Cafe Lu. Santa Ana councilman Carlos Bustamante, a Republican, was the coffee bar’s biggest customer.

The cafe featured Democratic electeds and candidates as waitresses and barristas who were expected to supplement their city incomes on tips.
“It was hard walking on these platform shoes, and Bustamante is a lousy tipper,” said Santa Ana Mayor Pro Team Claudia Alvarez.
The waitresses at Cafe Lu seemed surprised that another coffee bar had opened up.
“Where would you rather go for a $10 smoothie, here at Cafe Lu or there?,” said Cafe Lu waitress.
Cafe Blu got into some trouble with the Santa Ana Police Department when some of the waitresses outfits were a little too skimpy. It didn’t help sales.
“Now what am I supposed to do with my day?” said Bustamante.
