Community Forum on Costa Mesa Charter Scheduled for Thursday

Costa Mesans for Responsible Government will present a panel discussion on the impact of Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer’s proposed Charter Initiative, this Thursday, March 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue, Costa Mesa.

Righeimer-Caesar

Somehow the 15th of March, the Ides of March, seems to be an appropriate date to mark the beginning of the fight against Righeimer’s Power Grab. The soothsayer’s warning to Julius Caesar, “Beware the Ides of March,” has forever imbued that date with a sense of foreboding. While it is unlikely any blood will stain the floor at the forum, organizers plan for a healthy discussion on the issue.

The two hour program will include a presentation by citizens of Costa Mesa on specific impacts this charter will have on the city and the way the City of Costa Mesa governed. Event organizers are asking residents to come and learn what will and will not change if this charter is passed. The program will also address those dangers in what the charter doesn’t say and what could change depending on the wishes of a current or future city council.

Residents of Costa Mesa should take advantage of this opportunity to cut through the misinformation that the council majority have put out about their proposed Charter. Righeimer, would be wise to “Beware The Ides of March.”
