Former Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) Chairman Howard Adler passed away on Sunday at the age of 68 after a long illness.
In an email to party faithful, current DPOC Chair Frank Barbaro wrote:
Howard was a giant in Democratic circles here in Orange County. For the last 10 years he has had the misfortune of having the worst breaks in his health that anyone could ever imagine.
He was a kind and gentle man but never wavered in his beliefs about the common man and woman and the ideals of the Democratic Party. He served as Chairman of the Orange County Democratic party in the 1970’s, was good friends with Hubert Humphrey and ran for Congress and lost in the primary to Jerry Patterson, who became the Democratic nominee in Central Orange County and was successfully elected and remained in office for many terms.
He served as Chief of Staff for then Congressman Richard T. Hanna and served in Washington, D.C. as well as here in Orange County.
A memorial service will be held this Thursday, December 22nd at 1:00 pm at the Fullerton Arboretum located at 18001 Yorba Linda Boulevard, Yorba Linda, California 92886.
In leiu of flowers, the family requests making a donation to the Southwest Community Center in Howard’s name.
