OC Weekly’s Gustavo Arellano wrote on the Navel Gazing blog this morning about Orange City Councilman Jon Dumitru‘s Facebook rant remembering the attacks by 19 religious whack-jobs on September 11, 2001.
The last time we checked in with Orange councilman Jon Dumitru, we caught him lying to a small newspaper and had a good chuckle about it. This past weekend, to commemorate 9/11, Dumitru uncorked a laugher by broadly slamming Islam and the Koran instead of the terrorists who committed the attacks. Of course, Dumitru doesn’t have the stones to utter such nonsense to the general public ala his contemporary, Villa Park councilwoman Deborah “Sodomy” Pauley, and did it through the relative privacy of his little-updated Facebook page.
While there is no excuse for his rant, at least he didn’t pull a Claudia Alvarez (Santa Ana) and voice this particular rant while performing his official duties.
UPDATE: Gustavo has revised his original post with this bit of information which kind of ereases my point above.
One thing I didn’t realize the first time around: Dumitru posted his anti-Muslim rant on his official councilmember page, instead of his personal page. NICE…way to represent the Muslim residents of your city, Jon Boy!

Whackjob is a pretty good description for this loser. If 911you has taught is anything about Islam, it is that most adherents to the faith follow the true meaning of the Koran, not some perverted odea that a few terrorists conveyed that fateful day. The thi.g with Dimitru is he speaks, unfoetunately for many extremists on the ultra-right.

While he may be a whackjob, it is easy for individuals to have issues with people who follow a book that has over 100 verses calling for the violent death of us infidels.
While faith in something can be a good thing, Religion has done far more harm to man than good.
Timothy McVeigh, Jim Jones, David Koresh, The Children of God, and so many other “Christians” through out the ages have taken the bible and done some pretty interesting things using scripture as their spring board. Including acts of terrorism, mass murder and sexual abuse. Yet we don’t hear Americans wailing about Christians. They are with out question set aside as “radicals” and “not real Christians.” Well, that’s how decent Muslims look at the violent, hateful Muslims and cults like the Taliban. Why is that so hard to understand?
Well said. I remember shortly after 911 Muslim coworkers telling me of the stares and comments. One friend, who does not normally go armed off duty, began doing so. He was afraid for himself and his family. Now, 10 years later, we have Muslim students, rights being constrained. I have to wonder how much interference it would have been had it been a well known communist speaker and a band of “patriots” staging the demonstration. Uh oh, this is starting to sound like a good blog entry. Gotta go…
Given that Dumitru was the driving force last year behind naming Orange a “Rule Of Law City” (meaning hostile to Mexican immigrant workers) I’d go with bigot.
Which of course doesn’t rule out idiot as well. Especially in big Jon’s case.
