Where is Miguel Pulido’s Leadership Regarding Claudia Alvarez?

In a late Friday afternoon press release the city issued the following statement regarding Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez’s comments made about the Chase family.

At the August 24th City Council meeting, inappropriate remarks were made that were offensive.   These comments do not reflect the beliefs of the Mayor and all of the members of the City Council.  On behalf of the City of Santa Ana, we apologize to the Chase family, the Jewish community, and anyone else who was offended by the inappropriate comments.

What is interesting about the statement is that it does not say who made the “comments.” It states that the comments do not reflect the beliefs of the Mayor an ALL members of the Council. If I didn’t know any better, I would think that the statements were made by someone other than a member of the City Council, who was chairing the meeting. I guess Councilwoman Alvarez has managed to apply her directive issued to public speakers at council meetings that “You Cannot Say My Name” to press statements about her own official actions.

The statements made by Claudia Alvarez have been roundly condemned by the community, but not yet by the Mayor, Miguel Pulido.

Where at seven days and Miguel is still quiet as a mouse. What’s up with that?

Cat got your tongue?

  1. Apologizing is one thing. Enforcing the Code of Ethics through punitive measures is another. Alvarez violated not only the spirit of the Code, but the letter. If no action is taken, then the SA Code of Ethics is truly a hollow document.
