IPSF gets Grants from Google and Montesorri International

August 18, 2011, Irvine CA – Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) announced today that it has been named the recipient of grants from Google, Inc. and Montessori International.  Both grants will support IPSF’s efforts to ensure educational opportunities in the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD).   “We are honored to welcome Google, Inc. and Montessori International as our newest corporate partners,” said IPSF CEO Neda Zaengle.  “Their generous grants to IPSF will make a difference to the over 27,000 students in IUSD.”

Google, Inc.’s grant will assist IPSF in providing science materials and supplies to middle and high-school students in IUSD schools.  “Google believes that investing in science, engineering, technology and math (STEM) education programs is crucial to a student’s future success in the workforce,” said Veronica Bell, Manager, Community & Government Affairs for Google.  “We are pleased that our donation will provide Irvine students with additional opportunities in this critical area.”

Montessori International’s grant will provide funding for three key IPSF initiatives, enhancing the classroom experience for students across the district.   A portion of the funds will be used to implement Naviance, a web-based college counseling program in each IUSD middle and high school, enabling students to create an individualized four year academic plan.  Additional funds will be used for technology related equipment and supplies and classroom grants for IUSD’s Montessori and Alternative Program for Academically Accelerated Students (APAAS) programs.  “We are proud to support the students of the Irvine Unified School District through this grant,” said Betty Miller, President of Montessori International.  “Irvine Public Schools Foundation deserves enormous credit for the work it is doing on behalf of Irvine students and we are glad to be part of their efforts.”

“The Irvine Unified School District would like to thank Google, Inc. and Montessori International for making such generous and worthwhile investments in education,” said IUSD Superintendent Terry L. Walker. “In these challenging economic times, every penny counts, and we are incredibly fortunate to receive grant funding for valuable educational opportunities through IPSF.”
