IRVINE — Marti Schrank, aka “Marti from the Party”, is a legend among local and statewide Democrats. She began her diva like run in politics volunteering for campaigns over 50 years ago. Since then Marti has leveraged her bright, energetic enthusiasm to support Democrats on labor issues and countless other battles. Her resume includes the Democratic Party of Orange County Executive Board, Orange County Democratic Central Committee, and the California Democratic Party Central Committee, where she has served on the State Executive Committee and Resolutions Committee. She was a delegate for Bill Clinton in ’92 and ’96, for John Kerry in ’04, and for Hillary Clinton in ’08.
Her most memorable, and amusing, feat is the founding of “The Fat Ladies” who kept their promise to serenade Bob Dornan when he lost to Loretta Sanchez in 1996. Her group made the front page of the Orange County Register, and got national air time.
“Marti is a role model for Orange County Young Democrats,” says OCYD chair Nick Anas, “Not only does she energize the Young Dems, she also takes the time to mentor us. We’re honored to follow in her footsteps.”
Keeping with Marti’s spunky and forward personality, the Orange County Young Democrats will honor her with a “Roast” style ceremony fashioned after classic Roasts of New York Friars’ Club, Dean Martin’s Celebrity Roasts, and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The 2011 Orange County Young Democrats Roast of Marti Schrank will take place Thursday, July 14th at the Irvine Hilton. The event will start with a mixer at 5:30pm, dinner and program will begin promptly at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online at http://bit.ly/MartiRoast. Table sponsorship and program advertisement opportunities are available. Contact Jonathan Barba (949) 607-8710 or info@ocyd.org for more information.
