The City of Tustin is one of many in OC that offer a fantastic fireworks show that’s well attended by many of the city’s residents. So this Independence Day, Tustin’s registered voters are encouraged to seek out petitioners to recall Tustin Mayor Jerry Amante.
Just be a registered voter and sign your name carefully, as the pro-Amante forces are going to do what they can to disqualify as many signatures as possible.
Declare your independence from a spendthift mayor who’s wasting city tax dollars on excessive legal fees, unnecessary lawsuits against the school district and severance for a qualified city manager who’s being well paid to stay at home and collect checks. Simply put, if you hate the idea of the city and the school district going to court, recall the Mayor. It’s the fastest way to elect a new city council member who will vote to overturn the decision to go to court.

Is that still going on?
What a waste of effort.
Matt —
the city rejected the petition multiple times in order to derail efforts to collect signatures at the Chili Cookoff. I’m told there are already more than 1,000 signatures collected and these guys are just getting started.
You’re kidding, Matt. This is one of the greatest political shows our small town has ever seen. I don’t know how much of a chance the recall effort has but I look forward to seeing Boss Tweed Amante sweat a little. My wife and I are planning to sign.
For myself, I’m pretty surprised and a little appalled to see Matt Cunningham call democracy “a waste of effort.”
I hope the effort is successful. If they make it to the ballot I predict Amante is toast. The question is whether the organizers are well organized enough to get the signatures.
And I hope, “keepdapeace,” that you’ll collect signatures in addition to signing. It would be a shame if Boss Amante won this round.
Sadly while other states protect against this, in CA recall accusations do not have to be factual – and discounting the subjective charges, these accusations are just plain false. Of the subjective charges, we can’t recall members of council just because we don’t like their style. It costs too much money, and this recall is is doubly outrageous because the mayor is termed out and not running next year anyway.
Even the recallers acknowledge there is no malfeasance, but here’s what this is about – unlike our neighbors the City of Tustin has reserves; we’re in the black. TUSD wants their hands on these reserves – it’s that simple.
If the democrats get control of the council we’ll be in the red inside 18 months, and then watch what happens – stealth taxes – traffic cameras – fines fees and levies just like Santa Ana, and the freedom we now enjoy by living in Tustin will be gone.
Pam – we have factually reported how Jerry Amante has mismanaged Tustin’s budget. I challenge you to correct a single fact we’ve posted in any of our stories. The Recall group had more than 1,000 sigantures going into the July 4th celebration/fireworks at Tustin High School. And [please spare me this notion that only Republican elected provide or deliver “freedom.” Seeking to recall a bad mayor is freedom too.
