KimOanh Nguyen-Lam Resigns From Garden Grove School Board

GARDEN GROVE — Garden Grove Unified School District Trustee Dr. KimOanh Nguyen-Lam announced at the last nights meeting of the board that she will be resigning from the Board of Trustees on June 1, 2011. Dr. Nguyen-Lam is taking a job in Washington, D.C. as a director in the International and Foreign Languages Office at the U.S. Department of Education.

Nguyen-Lam has served as Executive Dir., CSU Systemwide Strategic Language Initiative; Member, State Supt. Advisory Council (2006-2010); Coast Community College Dist. Measure “C” Citizen Oversight Committee (2006-2009); Coastline Community College Steering Committee; Coast Community College Dist. Community Service Award, 2009; CSUF Outstanding Educator Award, 2009; Congressional Award for Community Service, 2004, 2006, and 2008. Elected 2004, present term expires Nov. 2012.

The board will have the opportunity to appoint a trustee to complete Dr. Nguyen-Lam’s term or call a special election to fill the vacancy.

Dr. Nguyen-Lam said of her new job; “this is an opportunity to make a difference in a field that I am very passionate about that I think will have an impact on our student’s future. ”

“Despite or differences over the years,” Nguyen-Lam told her colleagues, “it has been an honor to serve with you.”
