Unable to garner over 50 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary contest, Democrat Sen. Blanche Lincoln will advance to a June 8 runoff election against a challenger backed by progressive groups angry over the Arkansas lawmaker’s Senate record.
With 55 percent of precincts reporting, Lincoln had 44 percent of the vote compared to Lt. Gov. Bill Halter’s 42 percent. Businessman D.C Morrison garnered 14 percent.
Per Arkansas election law, Lincoln needed to meet a 50 percent-plus-one-vote threshold Tuesday to avoid the runoff contest.
