The Ken Calvert Corruption Chronicles

Episode 1: Your Vote Says No, But Your Mouth Says Yes

The Ken Calvert Corruption Chronicles are weekly reviews of Ken Calvert’s 18 years in Congress.
The series will look into Calvert’s record of hypocrisy, extremism and corruption.  This is Episode 1.

Episode 1: Your Vote Says No, But Your Mouth Says Yes

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Ken Calvert’s inauguration into the DCCC’s “House Republicans Hypocrisy Hall of Fame” for “celebrating the benefits of President Obama’s economic recovery bill in their districts” even though Mr. Calvert voted against it.

On February 3, 2009, Calvert told the Press Enterprise, “It’s a boondoggle…The more people that know I voted against that bill, the better.” Ten days later, Calvert changed his tune when he told the same newspaper, “All of us in the Inland Empire will do what we can to direct as much money as we can.” [The Press Enterprise; 2/13/09]

On June 16, 2009 Ken Calvert had this to say about the stimulus on his website:

The Pelosi-controlled Congress is outspending the previous Administration four to one… Most of this spending — the stimulus, the auto bailout, the mortgage cramdown – have been in an effort to help our ailing economy. Unfortunately, none (of) it has worked.

This did not stop Calvert from supporting stimulus spending six months later when an ad from the National Association of Realtors commended Calvert for his ‘hard work’ in voting to extend and expand the Homebuyer Tax Credit.  The Homebuyer Tax Credit is part of the federal stimulus package that Calvert says doesn’t work.

Bill Hedrick has been a public school teacher for 35 years and, as a member of the Corona-Norco Board of Education, has helped lead California’s 8th largest school district for 21 years, improving the education of 53,000 children.  With a grassroots campaign and no national support, Bill came within less than two percentage points of unseating 16-year incumbent Rep. Ken Calvert in 2008.  Bill is running again to bring real leadership – leadership we can trust – to the people of California’s 44th Congressional District.

  1. Bill Hedrick will be my choice when votes are counted — we have needed to rid ourselvs of this hypocrite for a very long time -I have tried to get him to change his horrible choices which hurt all of us for some time, with any form of communication, including telephone — no success — so he does not believe we have a real voice and apparently feels he can continue with the status quo. Wonder how much he has taken from those lobbyists who continue to run these folks -with him we have no representation.
