Chuck DeVore Thinks “We Consume Too Much Health Care.”

December 23, 2009 5

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, who hopes to replace Barbara Boxer as California’s junior Senator, was interviewed on Fox News channel today and was asked about his perspective on the Health Care legislation before the Senate. DeVore claims that part of the problem of the costs of our health care system is that because many of us have insurance, we don’t ask about the cost of ourt health care. He thinks that the problem is that doctors are forced to perform too many tests to stave off potential lawsuits.

An Example to Local Electeds

December 22, 2009 1

Hearing how few electeds show up made me think, all too often we see local Councilmembers or School Boardmembers who lose sight of just what they were elected to do. They start to think certain events are beneath them, or others are meant for them to go and take a quick photo and leave. McCain claimed the he had never, in all his years in the Senate, witnessed a member be denied extra time like was done by Senator Franken. Seems in 2002, McCain did exactly the same thing.

In the early hours of Monday morning, the Republican effort to block the Senate version of Health Care Reform legislation failed on a 60-40 vote.  There will be several votes to follow, but this was the big one. Later this week the final bill will be the subject of a simple majority vote, which is expected to pass and send the bill to conference committee to reconcile with the House bill.

Obama’s Weekly Address: The Patient’s Bill of Rights and Health Reform

December 19, 2009 0

In his weekly address, President Obama praised the strong patient protections in the health insurance reform bills in Congress, and called on Senators to stop blocking this critical reform effort. The legislation contains many of the protections originally proposed in the bipartisan Patient’s Bill of Rights a decade ago, plus additional protections and rights; and it will reduce costs for families, strengthen Medicare, and lower the deficit.

John Campbell’s War on Christmas and Speaking to Power

December 19, 2009 1

Seems a group of UCI students called to schedule and got an appointment at Campbell’s District office in Newport Beach to express their opinions regarding specific legislation before the Congress. Unfortunately, they were met by Irvine Company security guards who prevented them from gaining access to the Congressman’s office suite which is located in an office building owned by the Irvine Company.
