I Am Most Certainly NOT a Fan of Ed Royce

I don’t care what people say, political nick-knacks can be very effective. Especially when those same nick-knacks are utilized brilliantly. Apparently OC Republicans definitely agree, Congressman Ed Royce and Supervisor Janet Nguyen came to the Garden Grove Strawberry festival and politicked the place out. Nearly every adult in the festival was a “fan” of Ed Royce, as his political fans cooled the crowd from the hot morning sun. Janet Nguyen did just as well, by handing out tons of balloons to kids along the parade route.

fan1This brings me to the main point of this blog. Where is our challenger for the 40th Congressional District? We need another Krom to take the fight to them for once. I mean I know this is a “safe” republican seat. So safe that it hasn’t gone to a Dem since its inception in 1992, but seriously folks all it would have taken for you to compete with Ed Royce today at the GG Strawberry festival would have been $392 for 1000 similar fans, and a smile.

I’m calling out the Dems in the 40th Congressional District, to find a good prospective candidate, and not just one that the party is sending out as a sacrificial lamb. This defeatist attitude that is all too often held by Dems in OC is disgusting, ridiculous and the very reason this is a “safe” seat.

I, and a small group of dedicated Anaheim Young Dems pledge to volunteer to walk every single block of the 40th that resides within the Anaheim City Limits , as well as put together a Anaheim Resident Fundraiser, when and if a good candidate “not just a party sacrifice” comes forward.

Let’s make this soon people; we only have 17 months left.

  1. I feel your pain, Steve. Several of the red OC Congressional districts had strong or very strong challengers in the last election and it looks like a couple will be even stronger in 2010. Apparently the 40th will not be one of them. Again.
But we have to run before we can walk, and maybe it’s better to concentrate on turning one or two red seats blue than to try (and probably fail) to flip three or four.
Also, I’m no fan of Royce either but I think he does try to be a decent representative. He isn’t phoning it in, like some of our members of Congress. He works his district, he knows his district, and he cares about his district. he doesn’t vote like we want him to but hes not just an empty suit.

  2. I think Lou Correa was far more effective yesterday. Fans and balloons are fine, but the two Republicans had no direct contact with the voters during the parade. They sat in their vehicles the entire time, while Lou trotted from voter to voter on foot.

His young senators were on foot too, waving and cheering all the way. There is something to be said for personal connection…

  3. Misha,

I don’t what parade you watched but Janet Nguyen and her husband walked the entire parade talking and taking pictures with voters etc. Yes she did have a car but only the driver was in it.
