Gavin Newsom’s campaign proves value of social networking after Twitter announcement of his gubernatorial run results in more than $28,000 in Act Blue donations in one day. Newsom’s campaign launch also resulted in a spike of 18,000 new supporters on his facebook page.
Today the Twitter campaign continued with an Earth Day greeting, link to the video we posted here yesterday, and a request for $10 to $20 contributions.
Also rumored to be in the running for the top spot, Lt. John Garamendi made the following announcement on his website today:
“I am proud today to announce that if current Rep. Ellen Tauscher is confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve in the Obama administration, I expect to run for the 10th Congressional District, a district that includes parts of Contra Costa, Solano, Alameda, and Sacramento counties. I am excited by this unexpected potential opportunity in my own backyard, and with your support, I will return to Washington to help shape a better future for California, our country and a very special Congressional District.”
If you do a Google search on Garamendi, his site still pops up as Garamendi for Governor, so today’s announcement was obviously a last minute shift in strategy.
