DPOC E-Board Tells Moorlach Leave Health Care Alone

DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF ORANGE COUNTY’S CENTRAL COMMITTEE EXECUTIVE BOARD TO SUPPORT COUNTY HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM

Santa Ana, CA – The Democratic Party of Orange County’s Central Committee Executive Board voted unanimously Monday night to support Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties in opposition to Supervisor John Moorlach’s attempt to cut funding for county-wide Health Education Program.

Services provided through the Health Education Program empower teens and young adults throughout Orange County to make informed, healthy, and responsible decisions about their health, and ultimately to reduce the incidence of unintended pregnancies, STIs, and tobacco use.

Moorlach plans to single out Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties by withholding more than $290,000 in health education funding. This funding is specially earmarked for education purposes only.

“We must keep public services available in these tough economic times, especially for those effected by rising unemployment rates. Taking funding away from an important program when people are losing their jobs and their insurance coverage is not only bad government, but immoral,” said County Chair, Frank Barbaro.

Supporters, including Central Regional Vice-Chair Florice Hoffman, will be attending the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in solidarity with Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.
