Time for Jon Fleischman to Make a Statement on Mike Carona

While so many of us thought Jon Flieschman of the Flash Report and formerly a flack for the Sheriff’s Office would be called to testify as a defense witness in the Mike Carona trial (excuse me, the indicted for corruption, the resigned and disgraced former sheriff who routinely wore his Christian faith on his sleeve while carrying on an affair with a woman who wasn’t his wife), alas Johnny Flash was NOT called to the stand.

Other than carrying feeds from the OC Register and the LA Times on the Carona trial, Fleischman himself has not personally addressed the charges against his former boss.  With final arguments and jury deliberation due to begin after the New Year and Carona’s fate finally delivered, isn’t it time we got the true insider’s view from the man who claimed to have an insider’s view?

Testimony has already revealed what Carona really thinks about his former employee and his “silly Flash Report” and Jon should at least address charges that he shakes down his advertisers.

By his silence, Jon continues to protect Carona.  Or he’s protecting his own reputation as an insider.  Or perhaps he’s worried that the public will discover he didn’t have the insider status so many were led to believe he had.  Perception is sometimes reality.  At a BoS meeting earlier this year, Fleischman stated that public officials who abuse their authority for persoanl gain should bear the full force of the law.  We couldn’t agree more.

Perhaps it pains Jon to know Carona is part of the problem of Republican domination of Orange County politics and he’s hoping, with the verdict and its impact, that the whole incident will just blow over.

So, as Carona’s flack, Flesichman was aware of what was going on in the Sheriff’s office and did nothing about it, which taints his reputation as a county employee who placed partisan politics over his duty to the taxpayers.

Or, Fleischman was *truly* unaware of the misdeeds going on in the Sheriff’s Office making his claims of “insider status” a total sham, also tainting his record and his professional honesty.

I’m not sure what the middle ground is here.

Simply put, what did Jon Fleischman know about how Mike Carona ran the Sheriff’s Department and when did he know it? And if he knew it and knew it was wrong, why didn’t he say something other than shill for Carona?

  1. The Flash Man is one of those same far-right Republicans who preach, but do not practice. He screams about the censorship of the “main stream media and liberals.” He has no problem attempting to censor those who disagree with him and the selected few. The Flash Man only wants to hear his opinion.

On his website, he has a link for “secret” tips, but this person has given out IP information about those who disagree with him to others so they can investigate.

Not really the person he claims.

  2. What did you expect?

One of these former hanger on, cheerleading republicans to step up and openly condem the former Sheriffs actions?

There’s a better chance of Dick Cheney admitting he is a war criminal.

These guys are hacks plain and simple.

  3. Dan– Not that I am a fan of Fleischman but I suspect if he were to respond he would say its not his role to speak ill of Republicans(except the Governor and other RINOS). It’s not his role to apologize for Republicans, to dwell on their screw ups, or respond to the broadsides from sites like the LOC. I suspect he would say his role is to attack Democrats, RINOS and fellow travelers. If you or anyone else wants to attack Republicans, RINO or no, then have at it but don’t expect him to do it. Fair and balanced is not the motto of the Flash Report.

Of course this undercuts his credibility with those who don’t wake up, pray and sleep on the right side of the bed. But I doubt he cares about the left or the middle.

And don’t hold your breath awaiting a response. He learned at the Tom Fuentes School of Politics. Fuentes never shared a podium with a Democrat when the media or groups sought representatives from both parties. He ignored Democrats which saved him from having to defend the GOP from someone who might follow up on one of his answers.

  4. NCS,

All good points. And it was one of the many reasons Tom Fuentes wasn’t taken seriously outside of his coterie of true believers.

  5. We don’t have any problems criticizing Dems here when they deserve it. To make Carona a solely partisan issue tells me how small Jon is.
