Beth Krom wrapped up her final council meeting two weeks ago and tonight, she’ll turn over the mayor’s gavel to Sukhee Kang at a reception at Irvine City Hall.
Beth is wrapping up one of the more successful tenures as mayor of Irvine. The city has grown in positive ways. BusinessWeek calls it one of the best places to ride out a recession. Money Magazine says its the fourth best place to live in the US. The FBI says it’s the safest city in America for the 4th year in a row. And Orange Coast Magazine suggests other cities in OC should be jealous of us.
As mayor, Beth never got the credit she deserved as political opponents (still) seem obsessed with all things Agran. But anyone who knows Beth knows she’s too strong willed to be anyone’s puppet. She’s led the city with grace and dignity and I’m pleased she’ll continue to serve the residents of Irvine on the city council until 2012.Â
