I tuned in to Cameron Jackson’s KUCI radio program this morning to catch his reaction to Tuesday’s election (doing so, I likely doubled his audience). Having done commercial radio in New York state about 25 years ago, one of the best pieces of advice I ever got was “don’t insult your audience when the mic is on.”
No such luck with Cameron.
Regularly calling voters morons for passing certain bond measures, dipping into bad Ahh-nold impressions at every mention of the Governor, and burning air time while looking up statistics (showing a serious lack of preparation), Jackson made an interesting claim that Larry Agran stole the election in Irvine.
Some fact checks for Cameron:
1. Sukhee Kang outraised Christina Shea in Irvine; so regardless of the fact he raised about $200K to her $33K, he nearly doubled her contributions in the city and she got very little financial support from the Republican establishment in Irvine.
2. Irvine prgressives have no won the last 5 mayoral elections in Irvine; not going Republican doesn’t make Irvine voters morons.
3. Todd Gallinger beat Margie Wakeham, not the other way around as you reported.
4. Both Measure R and Measure S passed with wide margins. Voters sided with the Progressive slate and not the Republicans.
5. While Steven Choi was re-elected, it was only for 2 years.
6. It didn’t hurt the Progressive slate that the City went for Obama at 52 percent.
Glad you have that program to work out your anger management issues Cameron. I notice that the Irvine Tattler hasn’t been updated since October 29. Perhaps you two can get together and drown your sorrows in a big pity party about how dumb voters in Irvine truly are.
I think its the last time I’ll waste my Friday mornings.
Â
Dan, remember my line about battery acid being poured into your
head the next time you get that urge.
Hahaha, make that 3 people that were listening in on Cameron’s diatribe!
Geez Cameron, I’d post a response on your blog but I don’t want to break your record of having blog that gets no comments whatsoever.
I stand by the comment that calling your audience morons is just an incentive to hit the “next” button on the radio. It has nothing to do with thin skin and everything to do with “I’m not going to stick around and be insulted.”
But in fairness to you, there was some late vote counts with provisional ballots and walk in absentees (which hasn’t concluded), so now Choi leads Agran by 25 votes for the number two spot and Wakeham has moved ahead of Gallinger. But count the total number of votes for Democrats and Progressives over the Republicans, its its pretty clear Irvine’s purple has a hue of blue in it. But using the Stephen Smith method of reasoning, the story was accurate when I reported it and it was reported in good faith so I’m not changing it.
