Another Stark Difference Between Republicans and Democrats

The Saddleback Church event certainly showed contrasting styles between Barack Obama’s thoughful and nuanced answered to questions in a conversation with Paster Rick Warren, compared to John McCain’s terse and direct responses so he could get his stump speech in.  Democrats seemed hapy with Obama’s performance as Republicans seems pleased with McCain’s.

Over at Red County, blogger Viorel has a post blasting the OC Young Republicans for failing to come out for a joint rally and phone-a-thon for JohnMcCain and the downticket Republican candidates.

While I certainly won’t comment on criticism by this Red-blogger to the OCYR (awesome calendars dudes!), I was struck by this statement on the friendly softball game between the OCYRs and the OCDems.

Nonetheless, at least the OCYRs were able to regain their dignity by beating the OC Democrats in one of their “many social events“. Right?!

Wrong.  The OC Democrats beat the OCYRs 11-10 in extra innings.  When questioned for a reason for the loss, many OCYR members stated that “they decided to play everybody who showed up, for fairness’ sake.”  Not a very Republican strategy if you ask me.  Maybe some of those not-so-good players could have gone to the rally instead??

Geez Louise.  Do you have to win at everything? What ever happened to “let’s have fun?” I mean, what? Did Adam Probolsky play shortstop or something?

It reminds me of coaching Little League.  A dad would come to talk strategy with me on the play of six year olds, when I just want them to stay alert, have fun and enjoy the donuts we brought for the end of the game.  It’s summer.  It’s softball.  Why so serious?

  1. Err, I gotta agree with the Red County blogger on this one.

It’s not about trying to win at everything as much as pointing out the utter worthlessness of the group, which really is unparalleled and undeniable. OCYR members are not happy about this.

  2. I’m a huge Obama fan, but I actually think he could use a bit more of the “terse and direct”, as you put it. I think sometimes his own thoughtfulness and “nuance” gets in the way of answers that should really come across as immediate, bold and unequivocal.

  3. Cheers to OCYD for kicking some smug GOP tail.
If they lose in softball what else could they lose in say November?
    More specifically November 4th?

  4. “Stump Speech?” LOL Typical. McCain whooped Obama in that one. Big time. regardless however if Obama wins, which everyone is saying he will…there are still things about Obama that no one seems to care about. Wright, Farakahn, the Weather Underground Domestic Terrorist group, just to name 3. There are many more. Is it me or is Obama starting to look more and more like a certain body foretold 2200 years ago? One wonders. I don’t know myself, but a lot of people seem to think that.
