Sheriff Sandra Hutchens has named her command staff today.

The Undersheriff will be John Scott, with more than thirty-six years of law enforcement experience. Prior to his retirement from the LASD, Undersheriff Scott served as Division Chief of the Custody Operations Division.

Assistant Sheriff Jack Anderson stays on directing a new division of Administration.

Assistant Sheriff Mike Hillmann will head the Operations Division. Hillman comes with 41 years of law enforcement experience from the LAPD where he was most recently Deputy Chief of Police, overseeing the Incident Management & Training Bureau.

Assistant Sheriff J.B. (John) Davis comes on board with 27 years experience in the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He will lead the Investigations division.

Assistant Sheriff Mike James comes on board with 23 years experience to run Jail Operations. Assistant Sheriff James replaces Charles Walters who has chosen to retire.

Executive Director Rick Dostal, who has served in the interim position of Executive Director of Special Services since March 2008. His interim position is now permanent.

I will have more about the presser later.

  1. anyone else find it interesting that we find out about who’s running her campaign for election in 2010 before the command team was announced?

At least Adam Probolsky didn’t handle the PR this time around.

  2. Given that political hacks are a dime a dozen, I found it more interesting that her primary staff appointments are out of towners.

I’m sure there are a couple of folks inside the OCSD who spent years kissing the rear ends of superiors only to be kicked to the curb.

That’s gotta be a buzz kill.

  3. Dan, that’s just coincidence.

On Monday night, I e-mailed her assistant a request to talk to her about Paul Morabito. She got a hold of me on her second attempt on Tuesday afternoon, and after asking her about Morabito, I took the opportunity to ask if she had hired a consultant.

There was no “timing” involved on her part. The command staff press conference had already been announced at that point.

  4. Since her appointment, there’s been far more action on the Hutchens election campaign than running the department; all I know is what I read in the papers here. But it certainly seems like she’s forgotten its a non-partisan position.
