The cover of the latest New Yorker Magazine depicts him in Muslim/Arabic attire and his wife as a gun toting terrorist. The Obama camp is calling the cover bad taste. Its really a hat tip to the morons who run Fox News who have suggested a number of times Obama is Muslim and that he and his wife exchanged a terrorist fist bump recently (disclosure: as a Little League baseball coach, AYSO soccer coach and Youth Basketball Coach, I hve been exchanging “terrorist fit bumps” with my players for years. Only we called them “potatoes.”
Its a funny cover and an indication that the national news media will stop fluffing Obama’s pillows for him.Â

That’s an extremely strong image they’re foisting on their largely partisan readership – sure looks like they’re laying down the party line.

Imagine if every nationality represented within the USA had as it’s principal alligance – it’s “homeland.”
Unfortunately politics is a dirty business, & each election we seem to reach new lows, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it without a fight for the truth & America.
Unfortunately, this cover that was meant for satire will be used against Obama. I agree with the Obama campaign’s assessment of it.
Usually if you have to explain it’s satire, it’s not that good.
I think this is just a little too much, little too soon and a little to close to what many Americans believe of Obama, no matter how foolish they are. It’s provocative for sure but does it hurt more than enlighten? I think it does.
The part that bothers me the most is the depiction of Michelle Obama who has not been very fairly treated by the media nor liberals. I’ve spoken to them, she’s bitter, she’s not appreciative. It’s ugly and she deserves better. Michelle Obama is still caught by the stereotype of a strong, out spoken woman and as much as I hate to say it, this cover does nothing to help that.
this is not satire this is full blown hatred. it’s bad enough they dressed them the way they did but to have a picture of bin laden on the wall and an american flag burning in the fireplace is just offensive. it’s hatred. by the way, i’m glad to see this site up and running again i missed it.
I am a New Yorker subscriber. The Obama cover does not offend me. I don’t think it is hilarious, but it gives satiric commentary on the rumors perpetuated by the right and by the ignorant. In the end I believe the New Yorker has given Obama a huge gift and this will all work greatly in his favor.
There are great numbers of people who believe the over the top fictions portrayed in the satire, such as Obama is Muslim or Michele Obama wrote a radical reverse-racist senior thesis. I know people believe these ridiculous stories because I receive anti-Obama chain emails from my goofy, ignorant (former) father-in-law. The emails talk about every falsehood satirized by the New Yorker cover illustration.
So, in the end, the furor of the New Yorker cover will bring discussion of Obama fact versus Obama fiction into a much broader public arena. It is a great opportunity to get the facts straight.
This cover is not humorous or even close to funny. Each element is hate for the people being depicted. Let’s see the McCain cover with his Mrs. as a stripper and beer bottles on the desk.
