Here’s a special message I received recently from the Yes for Measure G campaign. As you may know well by now, the recent budget cuts are causing strain on schools everywhere… But this especially seems to be the case in Santa Ana. Working-class families have already suffered from past budget cuts to the schools here. That’s why we need Measure G.
Dear TheLiberalOC.com Readers,
We are calling on you to ask your support for a very important cause in our community. The only way to modernize classrooms, reduce overcrowded schools, enhance technology access and maintain safe school grounds in Santa Ana is for the school district to pass a bond measure. Measure G is on the June 3rd ballot. We are writing to you because we need your help.
Measure G has been endorsed by almost every elected official serving Santa Ana as well as key community leaders, including Senator Lou Correa, Assemblymember Jose Solorio, Santa Ana Educators Association (the teachers union), the PTA and DAC/DELAC parent groups, the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor and all six members of the Santa Ana City Council. The Campaign Committee is chaired by two well-known, highly involved community members, Alfredo Amezcua (elected to the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees) and Mark McLoughlin (member of the Bond Oversight Committee).
This is where YOU come in! […] We are phone banking or walking every day until the election so please come out and join us! We are counting on individuals like you to join with us in passing Measure G on June 3, 2008.
Thank you for your support of Santa Ana Kids!
Sincerely,
VOTE YES on MEASURE G
on June 3rd!

And btw, everyone… In case you’re interested, there will be a special fundraiser in support of Measure G at LibrerÃÂa Martinez in Downtown Santa Ana this Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Special guests will include State Sen. Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana), State Assm. Jose Solorio (D-Santa Ana), and other local elected & community leaders. Email or call the Yes on G campaign (phone # & email right above) if you’d like to attend. 🙂
Santa Ana already passed a bond measure, and the SAUSD School Board and administration blew millions of dollars in bond money. They even spent $20 million building a warehouse instead of a school!
Santa Ana is number one in foreclosures in the OC. Our taxpayers cannot afford another bond, and if you think this is the last one, you are wrong. The SAUSD is already planning another one for November, and so is the Rancho Santiago Community College District. The City of Santa Ana is likewise planning a new parcel tax.
If all of these new taxes pass, the people of Santa Ana could see a doubling in their property taxes. To do this while we are in the midst of a new depression is unfathomable.
What we really need in the SAUSD is not a new bond, it is accountability. We need to blow out our school board, with the exception of John Palacio, and we need to get rid of our overpaid, under-performing Superintendent.
Vote NO on Measure G.
So what is Janet Nguyen’s position on this measure?
