VADC Joins OCYD In Endorsing Hoa Van Tran

Despite rumors to the contrary the Vietnamese American Democratic Club is endorsing the candidacy of Hoa Van Tran for the First District seat on the Board of Supervisors.  The VADC joins the Orange County Young Democrats in their support for Hoa, the lone Democrat in the race, as he battles Republican’s Janet and Dina Nguyen.  The Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed anyone in the race as of yet.

I met with Trung Ta, President of the VADC and a member DPOC Central Committee, a few weeks ago in Little Saigon and he assured me that he and his group enthusiastically support Hoa’s campaign.  Mr. Ta and others from his organization are active in the campaign.

If the rumors being circulated by some local Dems, including those with close ties to Janet, are true and Hoa is actually a “Trannie” running a stealth campaign to help Dina, are they ready to admit that Assemblyman Van Tran has actually managed to infiltrate the DPOC Central Committee?  The accusations against Hoa and his campaign must certainly apply to Trung Ta as well, right?

Come on folks lets stop playing “Oliver Stone” and leave the conspiracy theories to others in the blogosphere.  The time for the Democratic Party to make inroads into the Vietnamese community is now.  The Reeps have a big head start on us but we cannot afford to simply concede the Vietnamese vote to them yet again.  We need to join our brothers and sisters in the VADC and the OCYD in supporting Hoa Van Tran.

To all those folks that argue that this is a non-partisan race I ask you to look and see if the Orange County GOP thinks that it is.  As we are most all aware the OCGOP officially endorsed Janet Nguyen on Monday night.  Do you still think it’s a non-partisan race?

There are many unproven rumors being circulated by some within Democratic circles.  I urge you to scrutinize and question those rumors and ask yourself who might be behind them.  You needn’t take my word for it, see for yourself.  Contact Hoa’s campaign at (714) 775-8422 and set up a meeting with Hoa and ask him whatever questions you may have yourself or call Trung Ta at (714) 642-9590 and ask him about his support for Hoa.

Now is not the time for Dems to start destroying ourselves.  Now is the time for us to come together as a united front and take the Republicans on with full strength.  Hoa is a Democrat supported by Democrats and independents.  I believe once you learn more about him and his campaign you will join the fight.

  1. I just can’t believe this. Democrats actually had a chance of taking back this Supe seat this year. So why aren’t we helping Hoa Van Tran win?

I don’t think the allegations against Hoa are any worse than the allegations against Tom Umberg in early 2007. But do I regret supporting Umberg then? Frankly, no. He may have had his flaws (including residing mostly outside the district, unfortunately), but he still would have made a better Supervisor than Janet Nguyen. And now, I feel the same way about Hoa.

Now’s not the time to throw a good Democrat under the bus. Should Hoa deal with his campaign problems instead of deny them? Frankly, yes. But should we allow these problems to drive us to supporting the Republican incumbent? Certainly not!

  2. Sean,

If indeed Mr. Tran has actually secured the endorsement of the VADC, that would be very ood news for him.

Please pardon me for asking, since you seem to be the only person who actually knows this information; I wonder if you can find a press statement, endorsement letter, or web announcement in some official form from VADC? I believe that Mr. Ta supports Hoa Van Tran, but it is interesting that there is no current public knowlege of the VADC endorsing in the First District.

  3. Chris,

I was forwarded the email from the VADC’s Executive/Endorsement Committee which indicated the endorsement and had a break down of the vote by member. Hoa received the support of every member of that committee with the exception of one member who abstained.

Do you have a lot of interaction with the VADC? When was the last time you spoke with Trung Ta? Feel free to give him a call. I provided his number in my post. Perhaps since you don’t believe me, he can provide you with enough proof to satisfy your inquiring mind.

  4. Sean,

Since my earlier commentI have received the same information. It really doesn’t matter what my interaction with the VADC is. It is incumbent on them, or Hoa, to tout their endorsement, or at least announce it.

CONGRATULATIONS TO HOA VAN TRAN for receiving the endorsement of the VADC.

Now if he can only shed the dead weight of Reynoso and file a factual financial reporting statement, we’ll have some progress.
