CA-42: Isn’t It Time We Get Represented for Once?

{Here’s a special article I did for one of those big national blogs… But do you mind if I give you all a sneak peek first? – Andrew 😉 }

I don’t know how many of you have been following the many messes down here in Southern California when it comes to our CReepy Congresscritters, but I can guarantee you that this has become one giant mess for all of us to deal with. And in particular, there’s a scourge on the 42nd District by the name of Gary Miller. He’s been repeatedly caught red-handed funneling our tax dollars to his wealthy patrons, seeking out more of our tax dollars to enrich himself, and basically behaving like an all-around crook when he’s supposed to be doing the people’s business.

But hey, not all has gone wrong down here in Southern California. In fact, there’s someone who’s stepping up to the plate to get rid of Gary Miller and all his dirty, creepy corruption. Follow me after the flip for more…
So you still don’t know who I’m talking about and what I’m talking about? OK, let me catch you up to speed some more. Here’s what I wrote back in July 2007:

Well, let’s start by answering the corruption question. He’ll skirt the law and evade paying his taxes in order to enrich himself on the taxpayers’ dime. Now how’s that for someone who’s supposed to be such a better patriot than those “America-hating Defeatocrats”?

Oh, and who is Gary Miller really working for in Congress? Looking at all the earmarks he’s put into legislation and where he’s directing these federal funds, the answer is quite clear. He’s bought and paid for by the Lewis Group, a real estate development company in Upland. Whatever the Lewis Group wants, Gary Miller delivers… Even if it calls for money spent in Victorville, which is nowhere near the district! Now why would Gary Miller direct federal funds to one interchange in Victorville? Oh yes, that’s right… The Lewis Group had a new development right off the 15 in Victorville!

And oh my, look how rewarding all this work has been for Dirty Gary Miller! Look how the Lewis Group has paid him back for all his service. How precious. But you know what? Gary Miller may focus on what’s best for his bottom line and the Lewis Group’s bottom line, but he’s not taking care of what’s best for the voters of his own district.

So when did Dirty Gary Miller forget why he’s supposed to be in Congress? Doesn’t he remember that he’s supposed to serve the voters who send him to Washington to represent their interests? Now is it in their interest that Gary Miller abuse “eminent domain land sales” in order to avoid paying the taxes that provide for our national security, our transportation infrastructure, our schools, our parks, and so much more? Is it in their interest that Gary Miller ignore the local needs of the district in order to deliver the desires of out-of-district developers?

And guess what? Gary Miller may not be in the headlines now, but he still has his corruption problems. He’s still (mis)using our tax dollars to pay for pet projects to imporve his own property. He’s still not paying attention to the needs of his constituents over his own greedy desires. He’s still looking out for himself while ignoring everyone else.

But hey, we don’t have to continue allowing this to persist. Believe it or not, there’s a great Democrat running for Congress down here in California’s 42nd District who will put an end to all this corruption happening in our name (and with our tax money!). Say hi to Ron Shepston!

I’m running because Congress has let the President stomp on the Constitution, balloon the deficit, and get us stuck in a misbegotten war. Gary Miller seems to see his position in Congress mostly as a way to make money for his friends. I swore an oath to defend the Constitution when I was in the Air Force during Viet Nam (1966-1970), and that’s why I’m going to run. I’m going to swear another oath to defend the Constitution as a Congressman. I didn’t see combat then, but that doesn’t stop me from fighting now and when I get to Congress.

Ahh, now doesn’t that sound refreshing? And this? Really, isn’t it time that we have more folks in Congress who care about serving us and our interests rather than serving themselves and their own corrupt interests?

If you’d like to help Ron, please contribute to the campaign to make sure he has what it takes to compete and take down Miller. And if you live in the area, please consider signing up to be a volunteer. I guarantee you won’t regret helping Ron win. After all, isn’t it time we have more folks in Congress that represent our interests instead of corrupt special interests?

  1. Andrew, is any polling underway for the primary to let us know who’s ahead?

    I still don’t see a lot from Ron’s campaign about what his platform is, and in Ed’s case, I’m bothered by people from outside the district running for Congress. Shold Ed get elected, he’d be one of the few members of Congress who lives in another congressional district.

  2. Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution:
    No person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five years, and been seven years a citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state in which he shall be chosen.

    So there is no requirement to move into the district after election. A member of Congress merely needs to reside in the STATE (not the DISTRICT) that s/he represents.
    There have been a few cases of Congressmembers residing outside of their districts, but not many.
