A Steve Young Update

I would have loved to have met former Massachusetts Governor and 1988 nominee Michael Dukakis at Steve Young’s most recent funraiser last week.  Dukakis successfullt transformed the Massachusetts economy from an old manufacturing base to a high tech mecca caled the Massachusetts Miracle.  It was quite a time.  If you weren’t happy with your job, you made a few phone calls, had a few interviews and could be working in a new company in a matter of days or weeks, and not months.  Dukakis was a competent elected government executive and a devoted family man.

Steve has been busy running for Congress against John Campbell; he sent me this email over the weekend.

Dear friends,

I am writing to update you on new developments in my campaign for congress:

1.  I have launched a new website.  The address remains the same, www.SteveYoungforCongress.com, but we have overhauled the site a whole new look and feel.  Take a look, drop me a line, let me know what you think.

2.  I appeared on KOCE television this week on Inside OC.  The program will broadcast on Sunday at 11:30 am, and Wednesday at 7:00 am and 11:30 pm.

3.  My answer to “Segregated Sundays.”  The part of Barak Obama’s speech this week on race that struck me was his observation that America is most segregated on Sunday when we go to church.  I plan on changing that in my life.  Tomorrow, I am going to attend the African Methodist Episcopal church in my area.  Anyone wishing to join me, the service starts at 7:45 a.m., at Christ our Redeemer AME at 46 Maxwell Street in Irvine.  (There is another service at 10:30 am if you want to join in this outreach but find 7:45 is too early for your blood)  I told a friend of mine what I was doing, and he said he would go with me to my “white” church this week to integrate it.  Imagine how we could change the dialogue in America if we started to visit each other’s churches — Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, etc.

4.  March 31 ends this quarter’s financial reporting period.  We are trying to raise $50,000 this quarter, but are struggling to get there.  If you can contribute, please do so.  You can use a credit card , on line at www.actblue.com/page/values.

Thank you for all do,
Steve Young, Democrat for Congress [Ca-48]

  1. I think Steve’s idea to integrate Sundays is brilliant. Even though not every religion celebrates on Sunday, it’s still a wonderful way to show how we support each other and a means to learn more about different cultures and spiritual beliefs.
