* Petitions Verified as Sufficient for Capistrano Unified School District Board Recall Election*
*Santa Ana, CA – March 10, 2008*
Today the Orange County Registrar of Voters certified as sufficient the two petitions to recall Capistrano Unified School District’s (CUSD) board members Sheila Benecke and Marlene Draper. The petitions meet the number of qualified signatures needed to place a recall election on the ballot.
Proponents of the CUSD board recall submitted the petitions to the Registrar of Voters on January 28, 2008. The proponents needed 20,493 registered voter signatures for each petition to qualify a recall election for the ballot. Qualified signatures consisted of registered voters within the CUSD jurisdiction.
The Registrar of Voters reviewed approximately 33,000 signatures per petition during the certification process. The results of the certification were delivered to the proponents and to the Office of the Superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District.
Pursuant to the California Elections Code the certificate of sufficiency shall be submitted to the governing body at its next regular meeting.
