Please join us for the Kickoff meeting of DemOC PAC! We will meet at 6:15 pm for registration and dinner. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Cost per person is $13.00, paid at the door. Please RSVP! Membership in DemOC PAC is not required to attend the meeting.
If you know others who are interested, please pass along this invitation or contact Lrob965@aol.com, www.democpac.org or call 714-270-5111 and we will add them to our guest list. The Democrats of Orange County Political Action Committee is now more than 70 members strong and growing! We are a group of committed Democrats from all over the county who have come together to meet and socialize, raise money and show that Orange County cannot be written off as the County of that other (unnamed) party. We are 465,000 and growing and we have a voice! We hope you will join this exciting and dynamic group!
Organizing Committee: Pat Alexander, Natalye Black, Wendy Bokota, Anne Brafford, Ellen Breitman, Jason Feldman, Meredith Feldman, Vivian Hall, Beth Huntley-Fenner, Francine Jeffrey, Debi Lambert, Vicky Parret, Gail Reisman, Zelda Rice, Lita Robinow, Ricky Robinow, Suzanne Ross, Dan Sasse, Mary Lou Sortais, Rena Stone, Lillian Swords, Julie Tapp, Sheila Vaughn, Sharon Wallin, Jamie Wilkinson
I’d very much like to understand what this group is. Are they another organization that’s going to raise money to send to Dems outside of OC? Since they’re a Federal PAC, not a State PAC, that’s my impression.
Does anyone know? What do they intend to do with the money they raise? Why aren’t they raising money for Dems in OC? Are any of these folks involved in the Democratic Party of Orange County? If not, why not?
We already have the Democratic Foundation of OC, which mostly supports candidates outside of OC. Why do we need another group like this?
I’m really tired of seeing OC be an ATM machine for Democrats elsewhere. Unless someone can show me that this group will be supporting OC folks exclusively, you won’t see me at any of their fundraisers.
Gila:
This is from the DemOC PAC Mission Statement on its website:
“The mission of the Democrats of Orange County Political Action Committee (DemOC PAC) is to harness the resources of Orange County to strategically support Democratic candidates and policies throughout the nation.”
I am with Gila.
This organization is as needed as another Democrat running against Dana in the 46th.
I see no need for this PAC and hope they focus on turning Orange County blue, not making Orange County the green for the rest of the nation.
Wish these guys good luck! The cause is something as progressives we all support.
That said, we need to work and contribute to races that impact us in the OC. We need to keep our eye on Debbie Cook’s race against Dana, thats were our efforts can really make a difference in Orange County!
Jubal: thanks, yes, I’ve read their mission statement. It doesn’t answer my questions.
Wish these guys good luck! The cause is something as progressives we all support.
Not I. Their cause is to drain OC Dem dollars out of OC. I don’t support that at ALL, and if you do I think you should rethink your position.
Hi…I’m one of the founders of DemOC PAC and my name is on as host. We’ve been “in the works” for some time. We know that there are other groups available and many needs in Orange County. The Democratic Party knows about us and has been very supportive. The cost of membership is much less than the Foundation – $250 per year and you have a vote as to where the money goes. People can pay less for membership but they don’t have a vote.
Why form another group? Actually, most of our members were “unaffiliated”. Those who have gotten involved are thrilled that there is somewhere for them to go and share ideas and opinions, as well as raise money. There are other outlets for Democrats in OC but there is certainly room for more.
Where does the money go? Well, since we are new, there hasn’t been much spent. We have voted to give to both Obama and Clinton. We definitely want to support local congressional races and will be voting to do so at our first meeting next Monday. We not only want to give the PAC money but also want to avail our members of the opportunity to support local candidates. We don’t want to be an ATM for the rest of the country but we do want to have our voices heard and to let people know that though John McCain may be raising the most money from Newport Beach, there are also numerous Democrats worthy of being listened to. We may know we are here but the rest of the world paints us red. Its up to us to raise our voices in as many ways as possible to be heard. This is an option for those who are interested.
I must say that the people in this group are exciting and excited, interesting and interested and have come together out of a common need and frustration. Join us if you like and if not, carry on with those activities you are committed to. We would love to have you!
Thanks to Dan for posting this.
Gila , I posted about these guys when they were forming weeks ago. The Party should have known about it then.
