Carona Case Quotes of Note

“Why not ask him if he intends to resign?”

–October 30, 2007, Jon Flieschman to reporters interviewing indicted ex-OC sheriff Mike Carona. (that one kind of backfired, didn’t it?)

“…I have no knowledge whatsoever of the Sheriff doing anything illegal. I say this knowing him for fifteen years, and working as Deputy Director for Media Relations at the Sheriff’s Department for over five years (I left there last summer) — let alone participating myself in anything illegal.”

— Jon Fleischman commenting in a the only blog post on the Flash Report referencing Mike Carona’s indictment that ran in the Flash Report on October 31, 2007; the post was a reply to Paul Stine (who posted at 8:55PM and Jon’s reply coming in at 10:24 PM –what? No trick or treating!); of course, Jon didn’t write the post, Max Rexroad did.

In reference to the second quote, if that is the case, then why does Jon remain silent on the Carona case on the Flash Report?  I will say this though; thre are times, the PR guy is the last to know anything because higher-ups (aka, the Sheriff) don’t want to put the spokesman in the position of having to lie about something or cover up something.  So Jon may have a point, but given how he has positioned his relationship with Carona and as a party insider, I’m not sure this is the case.

  1. Something tells me Jon should practice this phrase:

“Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?”

He should practice it over and over so he doesn’t screw it up when he asked to do it in front of a federal judge and jury. I’m sure he won’t perjure himself. A federal conviction of perjury requires a presidential pardon, and Jon isn’t “Scooter” Libby.
