The following announcement came in this morning from DPOC Chairman Frank Barbaro.
Orange County Democrats have added more to the lists of exciting firsts — Tuesday night Sharon Quirk, a life-long area resident became the first Democrat in 14 years to be chosen as Mayor of Fullerton. Mayor Quirk was given this honor by a 3 to 2 vote of her fellow members of the Fullerton City Council.
Still another first comes as the Mayor is the first Latina to serve in that role. She represents the best of Democratic party traditions-having received her education at UCLA and CSUF, she has taught in the Fullerton School District for nearly 20 years. Mother of four children, she has still made time to remain active in a wide range of community activities from the Chamber of Commerce to the Needlework Guild. All Democrats, not just those of us here in Orange County, can be proud of the example that Mayor Quirk has set.
Following two years of service on the Fullerton Community Services Commission, she was elected to the Fullerton City Council in November 2004 and for the past year, she has served as Mayor Pro Tem.
As Democrats we congratulate her, and look forward to her leadership for her community and as a role model for others as we go into the future.
Keep up the good work Sharon. We’re all proud of you!
Sincerely,
Frank Barbaro
Chairman
My wife and I attended the meeting where Mayor Quirk took on her new title. Although it was tense for a few moments, the third vote came in and the entire audience applauded. Fullerton rocks!
