‘Mudslinging’ against Clinton: This is ‘milquetoast’
Former Sen. John Edwards, who ran for president in 2004 with an unfailingly upbeat campaign and then joined the ticket of his party’s nominee, has come back this year with a fighting edge – an edge which Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York has likened to “mudslinging… right out of the Republican playbook.”
“I don’t think so,” Edwards said of the complaint which Clinton lodged about his criticism for her in the debate of the Democrat candidates in Las Vegas last week. “The idea that that this is mudslinging… We’re talking about substantive issues of war,” Edwards said on CBS News’ Face the Nation today. “If anybody, including Sen. Clinton, thinks this is mudslinging – this is milquetoast, compared to what we’re going to see next fall.”

Clinton’s campaign responded by targeting Edwards’ previous consulting work for a hedge fund that owned a sub-prime lender.
“If John Edwards really cared about working people, he wouldn’t have taken a $500,000 salary from a hedge fund that is foreclosing on working people around the country,” said Clinton campaign spokeswoman Hilarie Grey. “Sen. Edwards should spend his time talking about how he’s going to help those people instead of launching ridiculous attacks against Sen. Clinton.”

Clinton is now hitting Edwards on past work he did as a private citizen but fails to mention that she’s raked in much more money in campaign donations from hedge funds.
This isn’t going to be a very pretty couple of months.
