We are the tip of the spear, the vanguard of the backlash against media consolidation. The fight to save progressive radio is right here and right now.
That’s what I saw in a recent email from the Save KLSD Campaign. In case you haven’t heard, San Diego’s only progressive radio station is in jeapordy. KLSD’s operator, Clear Channel, is planning to turn KLSD into another sports station. And guess what? This wouldn’t just mean a loss of progressive talk for San Diego, but also for South Orange County, as most of South County receives KLSD’s signal, but not KTLK’s signal (the progressive talk station for LA and North OC).
Oh my, so Clear Channel is considering depriving San Diego and South County of their only chance to catch an alternative to all the right-wing noise machine. What can we do to fix this? What can we do to save KLSD?
First off, you can email Ed Shultz and ask him to come to San Diego to attend the rally to save KLSD this Friday! You can reach Ed at ed@edschultzshow.com or through his shows producer at james@edschultzshow.com, or email Wendy at wendyjoschultz@yahoo.com. Use your own words, but remember to thank him for his efforts and express why he’s needed to keep the national spotlight on KLSD, which is the ONLY progressive radio station available in South Orange County.
Also, if you’re free on Friday, go down to San Diego to attend a “New Orleans Style Rally to Save KLSD this Friday. It will begin at 6:30 AM (during Stacy Taylor’s show) at the intersection of Aero Dr and Ruffin Rd, near KLSD:
Clear Channel Offices
9660 Granite Ridge Drive
San Diego, CA 92123
Organizers are asking for attendees to wear black or a KLSD T-Shirt with a sign on the back, under the KLSD logo, that says “Save KLSD”. Oh yes, and you can also come in your New Orleans best. Just remember to BRING YOUR SIGNS along with some umbrellas for that New Orleans feel.
Ready to take action to save KLSD?
For over a month rumors have swirled around the beaches and mountain foothills in San Diego that the three year reign of liberal talk radio, on KLSD/1340, will soon be coming to end.
It now looks like it is going to happen on Oct 15

Wow, so this may already be a done deal? Well, for some reason I’m still holding out hope that perhaps this flip can be stopped. We’re already showing that there’s real demand for progressive talk radio here, so why take it away?
