Since I read the Flash Report so you don’t have to, publisher Jon Flieschman has finally had it with the governor. Here’s his post from yesterday.
Jon writes on a possible tax increase considered by the Governor:
I don’t know how to sugar coat this, so I will just say it like it is — he lied. He lied to me, he lied to his supporters and he lied to all Californians. When he campaigned for re-election last year, he said he was “moderate on social issues, progressive on environmental issues, and conservative on fiscal issues.”
Sounds to me like a bowling alley waitress who’s had enough of listening to “Stand By Your Man” while her soon-to-be-ex cavorts with cavalier disregard for the poor girl’s feelings. In the words of conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, “boo-freakin-hoo.”
More from Jon:
Along with all of my fellow Republicans, we have been trying to practice a terrible balancing act, perched precariously on the Governor’s stool while it is has been balanced on just one leg — solid opposition to new taxes. Well, the Governor has yanked that stool out from under us and we Republicans have now all fallen on the floor. I don’t know if it is more embarrassing, frustrating, or upsetting. My Republican Governor has proposed taxes on hospitals, income taxes on medical professionals, and now he is “open” to supporting a statewide sales tax. The mantra that the Governor has been spewing on healthcare is downright… liberal.
Now I always say its impossible to tell tone and inflection in written text, but the pause before the word “liberal,” like its a bad thing, just slays me. Sounds like Jon will need a pint of “Chunky Monkey” and a box of tissues to get over this one.
Perhaps the most telling aspect of this breakup letter is Jon’s plug for “an outstanding opinion piece” by former presidential advisor Karl Rove in regard to free market appraches to healthcare. So glad Jon forgets that Rove was in a position to actually enact these approches over the past several years as a part of Bush’s inner circle and with a Republican majority in the House and Senate. The fact that Jon offers kudos to Rove for anything pretty much sums up the state of his party today. Sad.

When I hear a conservative start blabbering about a “free market” approach to an issue, it is a code word for “I have no idea what I’m talking about.”
Jon and Rove only reinforce that belief.
