Carpe Per Diem: Wealthy State Senators pocketing thousands in Per Diem pay while budget is stalled

Loved this Register story by Brian Joseph this morning.

Where Democrat Lou Correra has renounced his paycheck until the budget crisis is resolved, Senators are pocketing thousands in per diem to stay in Sacramento until the budget is finally resolved.

Perhaps some of these principled Republicans could also forgoe their per diems of $162 a day.  And while the budget is held, the Register reports nursing homes and community colleges haven’t received their funding.  And, an unscientific poll from the Sacramento TV station shows that the California taxpayers blame Republicans for the budgte stalemate.

When will the Governor show some leadership here and get this process moving?  We need a single vote to do it.

  1. Again, kudos to Lou for this! It’s stuff like this that makes me glad that he’s in Sacramento. While I don’t always agree with him on anything, he is proving himself to be the one TRULY “fiscally responsible” Senator from Orange County. 🙂

  2. Perhaps we could get a law passed that mandates they all forgoe their per diems of $162 a day as long as the budget awaits.

Lets see who is brave enough to bring that up.
