I just saw that The OC Register is reporting that the Board of Supervisors just approved Janet Nguyen’s request for a field office in Little Saigon. The vote was 3-2 in favor of the request. Pat Bates and Bill Campbell voted with Janet to approve the request, while John Moorlach and Chris Norby voted against Janet’s request.
And you know what? As much as I usually dislike the Moorlach-Norby Agenda of disemboweling every good public service offered by our government in Orange County, they both got this one right. When I first learned of Janet’s request for a Little Saigon “county services office”, I could smell something rotten in the state of First District. Why is an office needed in Little Saigon, which isn’t THAT far from Santa Ana, when other people in other districts must travel great distances to Santa Ana just to access county services? And if Janet Nguyen really cared about all these people accessing county services, why doesn’t she fight to stop all the cuts to such essential services as mental health care and housing assistance? Yep, this request of Janet’s seemed a little rotten.
We all know that Janet Nguyen has a tough reelection battle ahead of her. But you know what? That doesn’t give her license to (mis)use public funds to raise her poll numbers. If this field office is meant for what I think it is, which is instant positive publicity for Janet Nguyen in the Vietnamese-American community, then a terrible injustice has just been committed. Public funds are being used to help a politician improve her image. If that isn’t the type of “government waste” that “fiscal conservatives” are supposed to fight against, then what the hell does “fiscally conservative” really mean?
Well, now Janet got her way. She has her office in Little Saigon. I guess we’ll just have to see how Janet uses it.
yes, “instant positive publicity for janet gnuyen in the vietnamese american-community” thats all this is and my how she’s learning to play the game. what bothers me most is that campbell and bates sided with her on this bizzare request. could it be that they want to “cozy up” to a possible future “golden child” of the vietnamese-american community? makes me wonder. also, might a beaner like me be helped out there if might need assistance on something or would i have to drive the three miles to santa ana?
I wonder how long Janet will be the “golden child” of Little Saigon. It’s not as if they’ve been ignoring the scandals. Janet’s doing this office to regain favor here, but I wonder how successful it will ultimately be if there aren’t even services coming out of this office.
If Janet really wants to serve the community here, she’d stop the cuts to the services needed by the working poor here. If Janet can’t do that, then what’s the point of this “service office”? Is it to serve the constituents, or the politician?
You all are right, Janet will get heavy attach about this issue on 2008 election year.
One thing for sure, she only care about her own community and forgot about others.
As voters, we should know what to do in election 2008.
How very true, Boby. We should know what to do about politicians to try to “buy” our votes with pork gimmicks. If they really care about providing needed services to underserved communities here, they’d actually fight for continued access to these services, and NOT vote to cut them.
If Janet Nguyen cared about us, she’d stop the attacks on services needed by these working poor communities.
