So much for rumors of division among OC Democrats

Poor Matt Cunningham a.k.a. Jubal on Red County/OC Blog.  He was really feeling smug about 24 hours ago with his scoop about how Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez had allegedly killed a major fundraising event for the Democratic Party of Orange County.

Seems Matt’s anonymous source sent him digging for a bone of a story that just wasn’t much of a bone.  We’ve covered it here and here; Total Buzz has covered it here, here, here and here; and Matt still believes he has found his bone. (Here)

Now to put the death nail in the coffin of his scoop, I just got the following event announcement from Melahat at the DPOC. So much for the theory of division in the house of Orange County Democrats.

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is one of our finest and most respected elected Democrats.

Congresswoman Sanchez is not only a great leader in Orange County, but also in the United States Congress. We must do our best to ensure that a leader such as her is elected and re-elected to represent Orange County to Washington DC.

Please join former Senator Joe and Diane Dunn at their home, for a Lobster Bash honoring Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez!

  1. Whatever, Chris.

I posted about this cancelled fund raiser. Then there’s a scramble on this blog to offer any kind of alternate explanation for what happened. Then Martin posts various possible other explanations. And now you smugly point to the various competing explanations as somehow being evidence that I’m wrong? And some DPOC press release as concrete proof of party unity? You’ve got to be kidding! What kind of press release would you expect the DPOC — or ANY party organization to send out?: “The host politician can’t stand the other politician for whom the money is being raised, but it’s to their mutual benefit to pretend to like each other for a couple of hours.”

  2. Chris:

I think a 7-year old hacked your account and is masquerading as you.

Or are you just acting like a 7-year old. I have four children, so I’m pretty familiar with the behavior.

  3. nice to see that rich people in santa ana can have live music at their house. i cant get away with that.

  4. Chris,

I don’t see how this fundraiser makes up for the fact that Loretta’s ego got in the way of the DPOC’s plans of bringing Pelosi to town to raise money for them.

This one raises money for Loretta. The cancelled one would have raised money for the DPOC.

    Huge difference.

  5. Jubal will never believe any reasonable explanation about Sanchez because he hates her. Period. No big secret. Of course he is going to believe his Democratic Insider = Mike Levin, because it is salacious. Besides, it is his job to bash Democrats on stuff, whether it is true or not. (Plus Levin and Matt are friends.)

As for Mike Levin, that egomaniac wanted to make a name for himself in a county he knew nothing about at the expense of hard-working Democratic activists that have been around for years. This will only bring the Dems closer as they sort out the damage Levin did.

  6. Nesta,

Loretta DID NOT KILL THE DPOC FUNDRAISER.

    Poor planning did that.

The fundraiser for Loretta, promoted by the Democratic Party of Orange County, simply illustrates that there is not division between the DPOC and Loretta.

Rest assured, Pelosi will be coming to TheOC to raise money for the Democratic Party of Orange County.

I would like to thank Matt Cunningham for helping make that even more likely than before.

  7. Roxxi:

I hate to burst your bubble, but Levin was not my source. In fact, I haven’t spoken to Mike in 3 months. I like Mike and think he’s a good guy, but friendly acquaintances is a more accurate description of our relationship.

I’m a GOP partisan and I want to see Loretta out of office. Big surprise! But I don’t hate her. Maybe you can’t think of politics in any other frame of reference other than love/hate — but don’t project that onto me. It’s mental sloth to dismiss me as some kind of “Loretta-hater.”

  8. Oh please Chris, save that BS.

If the speaker makes it down here to fundraise for the DPOC it will have nothing to do with Matt’s comments but everything to do with the Dems trying to save face in light of this “planning debacle”.

Regardless how you word it, the Dems and Loretta dropped the ball on this one.

  9. You’ve got Jubal’s Red spin, Nesta’s clueless Spin and Roxxi’s obsession spin. All of them off the mark. Pelosi will be here and the Party will make more money then they would have had they gone forward with the previously planned event.

I can understand why Jubal wants to stir the pot…..why Democrats would want to continue this telenova is beyond me.

  10. So why is the left always accused of being angry and hatefilled when we want a partisan Republican out of office?

Matt, Loretta has done a fantastic job representing this district compared to Dornan.

As far as party unit goes, the pongoing Spat between Janent and Van Tran is a much bigger tempest than any minor disagreement in the Democratic camps. And I will also mind you its June 2007; election day is November 2008. How much damage can this cancellation actual do to the Dems?

  11. Am I the only that noticed this is at Joe Dunn’s house? Doesn’t that back up the theory of party unity?
