The OC Republican Party’s ties to a child molester

If you replaced the name of all of the Republicans with Democrats in the lead to this OC Weekly story, I wonder if it would be getting more press:

Accused child molester Jeffrey Ray Nielsen has been buddies with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, former Orange County Republican bigwig Tom Fuentes and Sheriff Mike Carona. District Attorney Tony Rackauckas once hired him as a prosecution analyst. Mike Schroeder, the top political adviser to Carona and Rackauckas, successfully recommended Nielsen for USC law school.

About a year ago, OC Weekly’s R. Scott Moxley wrote about allegations that Jeffery Ray Nielsen, son of the Republican former mayor of Fountain Valley, had sexually molested a young boy in 2003.

The D.A.’s office has postponed the trial for almost 40 months. Ironically, in that time, another victim has spoken up and accused Nielsen of molestation in his Virginia home during the time that Nielsen was working for Dana Rohrabacher in Washington D.C.

Nielsen has some problems, but look at Rohrabacher’s list of friends:

Dana’s wife is a convicted felon.

Tony Rudy, Dana’s former chief of staff is a convicted felon.

Jack Abramoff, a close friend to Dana, is a convicted felon.

Jeff Nielsen, an old pal and employee of Dana, has been accused more than once of child molestation.

If I lived in the 46th, I’d vote for Jim Brandt.

  1. I said it last night in an email to friends, and I’ll say it again here:

Dana Rohrabacher is just WAY TOO SCANDALICIOUS to be allowed to stay in Congress!

    First his felon wife…
Then his felon friend, JACK ABRAMOFF…
And now a sex offender who molested boys while on Dana’s staff?

Enough is enough! Let’s fire this lame-ass excuse for a leader!

  2. Didn’t Tom Fuentes work with the diocese to supress the allegations of several individuals who were molested by priests? As I recall the victims won that one.

    Birds of a feather…

  3. The questions Congressman Rohrabacher has to answer:

When did you discover that Congressman Foley was soliciting pages?

When did you discover that Mr. Nielson was dating under-age boys?

Did you ever meet Mr. Nielson’s boyfriends?

Were you concerned that his boyfriend(s) seemed very young? Why not?

Have you contacted families of other children you put in the presence of Mr. Nielson? If not, why not?

Did Mr. Nielson have any contact with House pages? Have you made an effort to determine if he acted inappropriately with those pages?

  4. A few years ago when I was introduced to Jeffrey (at a dinner with a mutual friend) he did, in fact have a young boyfriend. Not underage, but attending a local college. Mr. Nielsen was about 30 at the time.
I doubt any of Jeffrey’s Republican friends were introduced to his boyfriend. He seemed closeted at the time.

  5. I knew Jeff briefly in 2005, I had visited his home several times, met a few of his boyfriends, the first was 21 and looked rather young, the second was 18 but also looked quite young. As stated in the news, Jeff was very arrogant / cocky, and was incrediably proud of his USC education. I knew of his pending legal troubles but of course he swore the boy lied to him about his age. He never mentioned the troubles he faced from the mid-90’s, but again he swore the trouble from the Westminster boy was only because the parents didn’t approve. Several times jeff would break out in tears and sob when talking about the story, he even asked if I would attend the trial with him. Shortly after meeting him I had a falling out due to his cocky attitude and some choice workds directed to me. Jeff had everything most people would want in their life and he pissed it away.
