Hahaha…slavery. That’s funny! The single greatest offense to human rights since the foundation of this country. Oh, Mitt. You’re too much. Orange County Republicans hope you do some more of your stand-up routine tonight.
We don’t need to stoop to middle school critiques of Romney’s sense of humor (or lack thereof). The reality is that neither significant party will nominate someone who cannot carry their base; do any of us worry about MA going red? Our concern should be focused on Guiliani. He has strong crossover appeal and could carry NY. Your post has given me an idea, though. I will try to attend the event tonight to size up Romney and see what the appeal is.
Excuse me, serial adulterer Rudy Guiliani? The guy who promoted his mistress to a high paying job she was unqualified for and the same guy who cheated on his wife twice while Mayor of NYC? He might carry NY, but what abou the Bible Belt which won’t look too kindly on his cheating heart. I don’t see Rudi running for office again, but could see him as a cabinent official.
Dan’s right. Guiliani turned New York around as mayor, and was exraordinary after 9/11. But that only carries one so far, and his infidelities — combined with liberal stances on social issues — make him a non-starter with the GOP base.
I for one am a big supporter of Mitt Romney. He’s the real deal and once he starts getting a little more name recognition, he will be the obvious choice for the GOP nomination. The reason he got elected Governor in Mass is because he’s so darn competent. He is the architect of the Massachusets transformation taking the state from a huge 3 billion dollar deficit, to a surplus – without raising taxes. More than any other candidate he can take knotty problems, bring people together and collaborate with them to get forehead slapping results. That’s how he transformed the Mass budget. His ideas were so smart they were just obvious to everyone.
Nobody can really endure a harsh scrutiny. We’ve all had jokes that fall flat. But for the most part, people on the left and right like Mitt Romney. I think he’ll be able to energize the base of the party, and attract swing voters in huge numbers. He’s the smartest, toughest guy in the race. And the most likeable too. Wouldn’t you like to have a beer, er, glass of milk with this guy?
