Los Angeles, CA — Today, California Women’s List announced the first 20 women they are endorsing for 2020. The volunteer-run PAC, which in the last two years has raised over $120,000 for pro-choice Democratic women running for office in California, is endorsing 20 candidates running for state legislative office.
Following the announcement, Emily Zahn, Board President of California Women’s List, released the following statement:
“California is often seen as a progressive leader among the states, but in 2017 less than 22% of our State Legislature was female. At that time, we were ranked 30th nationwide for number of women elected. Over the past 2 years, California Women’s List has helped elect more women to the state legislature, which is now 32% female. Today, California ranks 18th among the states for number of women elected.
We are proud of the work we have done and are excited to continue moving toward gender parity in our State Legislature in 2020. We are thrilled to announce that we are endorsing and supporting 20 incredible women as we head into this new year. Now is the time to push forward, continue to fight for progress, and make sure that women’s voices are elevated in our state.”
