As we do every week, tonight we hold our Drinking Liberally gathering in Santa Ana. In response to the rallies of people across the country who have been fooled, by an astro-turf movement created by corporate interests that care nothing about the people they are whipping up into mini-riots, we raise a glass to democracy. We are not loosing it. We are actually gaining it back, bit by bit, through the efforts of a few bold Democrats in Congress working to free us from the grip of corporate control of our government and elected officials.

Rep. Loretta Sanchez Takes Action on Vietnam and Nuclear Weapons Policy

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and a bipartisan group of lawmakers sent a letter to President Obama urging him to confront Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung about ongoing human rights violations in Vietnam. Later in the day Sanchez questioned military and administration officials on nuclear weapons policy.

Voice of OC Releases First Poll in OC Sheriff’s Race

Today the Voice of OC released the first of their polls for the June primary election. In this poll, conducted by the Voice of OC/Probolksy Research polling project, Voice of OC reveals not only the ranking of the candidates, but the data behind those results. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens holds a double-digit lead over her closest rival as the June 8 election nears and preparations begin for the final months of the campaign, according to the results of a Voice of OC/Probolsky Research poll released Wednesday.

Vietnamese Government Denies Rep. Loretta Sanchez Visa

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Vietnam, today announced that her visa application was ignored by Vietnam’s government. Rep. Sanchez, who just concluded a Congressional Delegation visit throughout critical parts of Southeast Asia, had hoped to meet with Vietnamese human rights activists and other officials during her trip.  Rep. Sanchez has been blocked from visiting the Communist country multiple times during her time in Congress.

Planned Parenthood named one of Orange County’s Most Trusted Brands

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties (PPOSBC) was named one of the top 10 most trustworthy brands in Orange County, according to a survey conducted by OC METRO and The Values Institute at DGWB, a think tank. PPOSBC joined the likes of Disneyland, Trader Joe’s, Chapman University, and In-N-Out Burger in the survey of residents released this month.

Why can’t Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez follow the Brown Act?

At the April 5, 2010 meeting of the Santa Ana City Council, Mayor Miguel Pulido missed the meetingand the gavel fell to Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez. Not only did Alvarez fail to folllow the Brown Act as it relates to public testimony, she also applied her rules arbitrarily on some speakers and not others.
