Ken Calvert has continually voted against historic health insurance reform that would improve Medicare, closing the prescription drug donut hole, and providing insurance for over 110,000 uninsured residents in his district.
In the Fourth District Supervisor contest to fill the unexpired term of recently elected Assemblyman Chris Norby, we have a full field of six candidates, three Republicans, and three Democrats in this technically non-partisan contest. On the Democratic side we have Anaheim City Councilwoman Lorri Galloway, La Habra City Councilwoman Rose Espinoza, and Buena Park Mayor Art Brown. On the Republican side there is Fullerton City Councilman Shawn Nelson, Anaheim City Councilman Harry Sidhu, and Businessman Richard Faher.
March is Women’s History Month. It seems like a great time to look a little closer at Ken Calvert’s record when it comes to women. In 2009, Ken Calvert voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The sole aim of this bill was to provide for equality in the workplace by restoring legal recourse against pay discrimination.
This month the House approved the Keeping All Students Safe Act, a bipartisan bill providing comprehensive protection for children against abusive disciplinary actions at schools, such as restraints, drugging, or being isolated in a locked room. Ken Calvert voted against this bipartisan bill. Ken Calvert voted for the continued use of abusive discipline in the classroom.
