As I continue to travel around South County on my listening tour, I have been hungry for news on the election front. As it stands today, unless one looked at the actual signs, you wonder if an election actually existed. There is news, though: Giuliani is coming to OC to campaign for Van Tran and Carly Fiorina. But, there is also a bigger start coming to town too: Bill Clinton!!!

The Quest to Remake Capistrano Unified: A Parent’s Perspective

I came to this conclusion after watching the campaign by the current trustees to impose an agenda that in my view that forgot what they were elected: to serve the Children of the District. It began when I went out to a Community Meet and Greet organized by Capistrano’s Children First to start making inroads within the Community earlier in the year. I got a real sense of where things were when I saw the District go on strike. I joined the teachers on the picket lines to underscore how the Community was with them. In my conversations with them, I wanted them to realize that times were tough and the budget deficit at hand.

A first hand account from a striking teacher: “It was a wonderful day. we had super turnout at Aliso Niguel High school, and wonderful student and parental support! Former students arrived to walk with us. We arrived bright and early to set up. It may be that the scabs thought they wouldn’t have to pass by us, but we started arriving before six AM. School was a disaster.”
