In the early hours of Monday morning, the Republican effort to block the Senate version of Health Care Reform legislation failed on a 60-40 vote. There will be several votes to follow, but this was the big one. Later this week the final bill will be the subject of a simple majority vote, which is expected to pass and send the bill to conference committee to reconcile with the House bill.
In his weekly address, President Obama praised the strong patient protections in the health insurance reform bills in Congress, and called on Senators to stop blocking this critical reform effort. The legislation contains many of the protections originally proposed in the bipartisan Patient’s Bill of Rights a decade ago, plus additional protections and rights; and it will reduce costs for families, strengthen Medicare, and lower the deficit.
Seems a group of UCI students called to schedule and got an appointment at Campbell’s District office in Newport Beach to express their opinions regarding specific legislation before the Congress. Stop paying teachers and principals a salary. Instead, pay them on a per-standardized-test-point basis each day. At the end of the school day, simply give each student a standardized test. Then calculate what the teacher and principal will be paid that day based on the growth of the student, that is, on how much the student has improved over the previous day.
