One week before the scheduled court hearing regarding the Costa Mesa layoff plans, the Orange County Employees Association on Tuesday renewed their offer to negotiate to avoid the outsourcing of City services which would force layoffs of more than 100 dedicated City Workers.

As I was in town, I continued to be witness to the “sign people” occupying the corners. I had not seen some of the “old timers” like Old Wes and others. I wondered what had happened to him — he probably went out to the Philippines to check on the orphan kid, perhaps. ?! :-).

From Voice of OC this morning is this reminder that the Orange County Board of Supervisors meets today and will decide whether to approve the recently negotiated contract with the Orange County Managers Association.

Today we have a bit of a busy morning in the news department on both the local and national scene. Locally: Santa Ana Mayor Is Director of Bank Under Federal Watch and Supervisors Balk at Funding for Obesity Programs.

Today, a bipartisan majority of the Republican-controlled New York Senate voted 33-29 to pass a bill securing the freedom to marry for all couples in the state. Governor Andrew Cuomo has promised to promptly sign the bill into law, and to make New York the sixth—and most populous—state to afford gay and lesbian couples the same marriage rights available to heterosexual couples.

I tried watching the entire city council meeting Tuesday night, but it was too damn long. Does that make me a bad person? As anyone who has seen the men who sit on our city council know, bad is a relative word.
