Hat tip to OC Independent for this scoop. Former Irvine Council member Tammy Kim has been granted admission into a mental health diversion to prove that she suffered a mental illness while attempting to run in an Irvine Special election for a city council seat where she voted in the 2024 election.
Here’s details from the OC Independent:
“The state penal code allows the court to order a defendant who “meets specific requirements” into diversion for “unique mental health treatment to support needs of individuals with mental disorders.” During such a diversion, the provider supplying mental health treatment for the defendant keeps the court, the defense, and the prosecutor apprised with regular reports.
If the defendant is deemed to “perform satisfactorily” during diversion, the court shall dismiss the defendant’s charges.
The next step is an April 9 hearing where what Kim has to do will be hashed out.”

“It remains to be seen if the judge determines whether being so deeply and powerfully obsessed with being elected to the Irvine City Council qualifies as a mental disorder.
Kim is charged with 10 felonies and one misdemeanor stemming from her elaborate machinations to fake her residency when she was running in city council special election in 2024 and 2025. A lawsuit was filed contending she did not live in District 5 (where the special election was taking place). As the controversy swirled, Kim was fired from a city commission. The District 3 resident abruptly canceled a fundraiser, while claiming she “legally lived in District 5” and painting herself as the victim of powerful and shadowy interests.”
If Kim follows through with this and her felony charges are dismissed, she may still be eligible to run for public office. But its not a good look for voters to say “oh you beat a multiple county felony wrap and declared mental illness. And now you want to run for ….what?!”
This diversion was clearly a hail mary by Kim’s defenses. But if youre on a merry-go-round at the public park, good luck running that business.
So who is running her charity??
The better question is who will write checks for that charity

She’s relevant? She’s citing mental illness as a reason for committing felony charges. She actually hurts Democrats instead of helping them.
Nothing says “irrelevant” quite like someone writing who articles about you. If she really didn’t matter, this post probably wouldn’t exist since people usually ignore things that aren’t relevant. “Hurting Democrats” says the person quoting a GOP pay-to-play blog and reporting it news. What matters is she got caught and then claimed
