SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana City Council Member Jessie Lopez announced her campaign for California’s open 68th Assembly District to represent the cities of Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Orange. The daughter of immigrants from El Salvador, Lopez was born and raised in Santa Ana and is the proud product of SAUSD public schools. Elected to the City Council in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, Lopez has dedicated her career to fighting for the interests of hardworking families in Orange County.
Commenting on her decision to run for the 68th Assembly District Lopez said:
“I was born and raised in our community, and I know firsthand the struggles that hardworking families face—rising costs of food, housing, and education making it harder to get ahead. On the City Council, I’ve never backed down from the tough fights. I’ve taken on powerful special interests to tackle the homelessness crisis, expand affordable housing, invest in clean air and water, and demand real accountability and transparency at City Hall. My record is clear: I stand with working families, and I get results.
“In the State Assembly, I’ll keep up the fight to make life more affordable—bringing down utility and housing costs, fully funding our public schools, and holding big corporations accountable for price gouging working families. Orange County families can count on me to stand strong against Donald Trump and MAGA extremists to protect our rights, keep immigrant families together, and defend abortion access.”
Lopez has kicked off her campaign with the endorsement of OC Action, a grassroots powered movement that has been leading the fight for underrepresented communities across Orange County.
OC Action’s Executive Director Jonathan Paik said:
“OC Action is proud to endorse Jessie Lopez for Assembly. A people-centered leader, she has been a champion for our issues from the very beginning, from housing to environmental justice. She is a leader that delivers for our communities, passing and codifying 3% rent control, expanded park spaces, and passing anti-corruption policies. Together, we’ll be able to see and work with the progressive champion we’ve needed to represent Orange County in Sacramento.”
About Jessie Lopez
First elected to the Santa Ana City Council in 2020, Jessie Lopez ran on the platform of uplifting working class families. On the City Council, she has led efforts to expand affordable housing, address homelessness, improve water quality, fund public safety, combat climate change, and deliver critical resources for local youth programs. Jessie has taken on special interests by implementing a lobbyist registry at City Hall, ensuring transparency and accountability in government, and protecting taxpayer dollars.
Born and raised in Santa Ana, Jessie is the proud daughter of immigrants from El Salvador who came to the United States seeking safety and opportunity. Growing up in a single-parent household, Jessie saw firsthand the sacrifices her mother made – working multiple jobs, including at Hoover Elementary School, to provide for their family. Jessie is a product of SAUSD public schools and benefited from after-school programs that gave her the support she needed, and from a young age, she dedicated herself to giving back – tutoring students at the Boys and Girls Club and volunteering at the local food bank.
Despite facing housing and food insecurity while working two jobs to put herself through college, Jessie persevered and became the first in her family to graduate. Now, Jessie is running for State Assembly to be a voice for working families across California. She knows firsthand the struggles of affording rent, earning a fair wage, and accessing essential services. In the State Assembly, Jessie will continue fighting to address our homelessness crisis, make housing affordable, improve wages for workers, increase investments in clean air and water, and make a quality education affordable and accessible for all.

  1. Forget what she does for a living because her political sugar daddy Vincente Sarmiento gave her a J O B. Have your friend ask what qualifies her to be in the Assembly when she hasn’t done much of anything on her own city council.

  2. The same thing most DEMs do. Get a sweetheart job from a dem benefactor the use there inside connections to try and climb the rungs so they too, can be another useless pandering DEM in state govt. See Harris, Kamala.

  3. Lopez is a fraud. Basically unemployment with no skill set other than getting barely elected. Her policies are not her own. She needs to find her own voice and her own way before she tries to make state laws.

  4. Becoming a crowded field.

I heard fellow anti cop activist Donna Asceveda is running along fellow cop haters Jonathon Hernandez and Jessie Lopez.

Leaving Penoloza as the law and order candidate.

Waiting to see if Tardiff runs again as a moderate.

This explains why Supervisor Sarmiento bought Jesse and Jon and expensive dinner at Chaak last month (Gabbys daughter is going to somiler school!).

    • I got snail mail announcing Donna is running; I’m certani its not true. Chaak is an amazing restaurant. Always order the bone marrow corn dish!

  5. ((((((BONE MARROW))))) Awsome. Was considering Original Fish Company, in Los Al. But Greg and Vern suggested Brea’s Best and Varsity Burger (AKA Fitzgeralds BROWN SHIRT DEN)!

    Have a nice weekend everyone.
