After two hours of discussion in a closed session meeting the Santa Ana City Council took no reportable action related to the performance reviews of City Manager Paul Walters and City Attorney Sonia Carvalho. Apparently, two hours wasn’t enough time, and additional discussions are scheduled for early next year.
We were unable to attend the 1:15 pm meeting where community members spoke both in favor and in opposition to the performance of both the city manager and city attorney. It seems that the discussions focused primarily on City manager Paul Walters, seen by the current/new council majority as too deferential to Mayor Miguel Pulido.

In an interview with the Voice of OC’s Adam Elmahrek, Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero cryptically discussed what’s going on. Tinajero said he spearheaded Thursday’s meeting so that council members could have a frank conversation with Walters, to avoid “rash decisions” and to have the council work through its issues with Walters before labor negotiations begin next month.
More revealing however was Elmahrek’s interview with Paul Walter’s wife Mary.
Mary Walters called the situation a “witch hunt” against her husband, whom she said has been emotionally hurt by council members “not being grateful.”
She was also sharply critical of the council majority, saying that, with the majority in control, she fears for relatives who live in the city. “I don’t think they know what they’re doing,” she said of the council majority.
Mary Walters, like other City Hall sources, confirmed that the council majority views the city manager as too close to longtime Mayor Miguel Pulido, a perception Mary Walters says is false.
She described her husband as a fair and compassionate man who, when faced with possible layoffs, took single mothers off the list of city employees to receive pink slips.
“They’re all ganging up on Miguel,” Mary Walters said. “There isn’t one thing that they’ve asked for that he [Paul Walters] hasn’t done.”

This saga is still evolving but should wrap up early in January.
Better than realty TV
Santa Ana Planning Commissioner likes to let it be known that he’s close personal friends with both City Manager Paul Walters and his wife Mary. Why would he choose to remain silent on this matter rather than issue a public statement of support for his dear friend Paul Walters? Looks likes Sean Mill has put his own interest in front of those of his alleged friends Paul Walters and his wife Mary.
No doubt Mill’s handler, Tinajero, told him to shut the eff up about this.
Sean’s likely commenting anonymously while insisting he doesn’t. its always easy to tell because the insults are the same
“They’re all ganging up on Miguel,” Mary Walters said.”
Come on Mary – you can do better than that. Miguel has been bullying the council for more than 10 years. No crok tears for Miguel are to be found.
If Pedroza is deleting your comments on NewSanraAna, post them here. Chris and Dan delete a few but less than Pedroza does
Yeah once again that communist filth pedroza has blocked me from commenting on his blog for a few months now. I think its so funny whats going on right now i absolutely love it! Its all about the stupid leading the stupid. And as ive said before im so dissapointed with sean mill getting mixed up with a loser like tinajero.
Losers gravitate to losers.
well, comment away Jose. No bad language, don’t libel anyone and keep your comment germain to the post
Pedroza likes to espouse his libertarian views but no true libertarian would censor comments like he does.
Walters may be a great guy but he is way past his prime. No succession planning, as usual, and everyone except the so-called “SA Spring” seems to mind. The city has been on the brink of financial disaster for months and smoke and mirror tricks by Walters aren’t likely to keep things going for long.
And liars gravitate to liars.
This city council is so dangerous. They aren’t smart enough to know what to do so they go on the attack.
Why didn’t they vote against Paul when it was up for vote? They only have themselves to blame for being so weak.
Now they are dragging a good man through the mud.
Man up council the last election was politics. Now go to work on an ailing city.
The next two years are going to be about nothing but revenge. I hope Miuel wins.
They had no problems with walters because at the time they were pulido hacks and when they licked the fruit of the tiny dark lords nutsack they sealed their fate and will never have an ounce of credibility ever again. Like all of a sudden pulido os bad?! Btw, im glad walters is being shown the door.
Paul Walters is dead weight. He’s over rated and over paid. It’s time for new, younger leadership in Santa Ana. A change of guard would be positive and auger well for the city. There are plenty of intelligent young lions with fresh ideas and approaches. I’m not holding my breath, but it would be quite refreshing to see Mr. Walters retired. The town will not fall apart. In fact, it will finally breath new life.
