| The Islamic Republic of Iran has opposed democracy, stifled dissent, jailed and murdered its own people, killed Americans, and is a global state sponsor of terror. Most recently, the regime led a brutal crackdown on democratic protests in the country. Like the rest of the world, we watched in horror as thousands were massacred at the hands of the state or disappeared while the regime attempted to conceal its heinous actions. Ayatollah Khamenei was a cruel dictator with blood on his hands.
However, we stand with our Democratic members of Congress in opposing Donald Trump’s unilateral and illegal attacks on Iran. Once again, Trump has skirted congress, ignored the constitution, and acted rashly and impulsively, dragging us into another war in the Middle East that the American people do not support.
Donald Trump campaigned on ending wars and lowering prices. Instead, his needless tariffs have caused prices to soar, pinching the pocketbooks of Orange County families. Further, he’s started an illegal war without the authorization of congress — a war that has already cost American lives, as well as hundreds more heartbreaking civilian casualties in the region.
Donald Trump and his administration have failed to offer a compelling reason why he’s put American troops in harm’s way. We condemn these attacks wholeheartedly and echo the statements of our Democratic members of congress in calling for hearings, accountability, and an end to all bloodshed.
We urge all Democrats to follow this link, find their member of congress and say “No War in Iran!”. We call on Congress to pass the Iran War Powers Resolution (S.J.Res.59 and H.Con.Res.38) and reassert its constitutional authority. The time to act is now.
