Senator Warren: “From the moment Katie set foot in my consumer law class, I knew that she would be a warrior for working families”
Warren Joins Growing Coalition of Working Class Californians, Labor, and Grassroots Supporters Backing Katie’s Campaign
IRVINE—U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) today endorsed Katie Porter in her bid to be California’s next governor. Warren’s endorsement comes as Democrats around the state rally behind Katie Porter as the only candidate with a progressive track record and vision for California.
“Today, I proudly endorse Katie Porter for California Governor. From the moment Katie set foot in my consumer law class, I knew that she would be a warrior for working families,” said Senator Warren. “She held Wall Street accountable for keeping families in their homes after the foreclosure crisis and wielded her whiteboard to hold CEOs and Trump Administration officials to task when they raised costs on hardworking Americans. No one will stand up to Trump with more grit and determination than Katie. But just as importantly, she will champion the kind of bold, progressive vision that California workers and families deserve.”

Warren and Porter have long fought to hold the powerful to account, including billionaires, giant corporations, and special interests that continue to thrive while California families are left behind. They both have pushed to get big money out of politics, earning Katie the endorsement of End Citizens United. Katie stands alone in the race for California Governor as the only candidate who isn’t taking money from corporations, apart from a billionaire whose average contribution is over $348,000.
In Congress, Warren and Porter pushed to reinstate protections for consumers after high profile bank failures in 2023 and worked together to block massive corporate mergers that harm families. They successfully demanded answers from Wall Street’s self-regulator following a shady deal that undercut consumers and called out TurboTax lobbyists for working to block free tax filing services for Americans.
“Senator Warren and I fought together in Congress to hold Big Banks and giant corporations that cheat the American people accountable,” said Katie Porter. “From the classroom to the Capitol, we have made consumer protection and fighting for working families our lifework. I’ll be a governor who is unbought, undeterred, and unwilling to continue the special interest status quo that has left too many Californians behind.”
Katie Porter has the momentum as the leading Democrat in the race for California Governor. A recent poll, the first with the current field of candidates, showed Katie with 14% of the vote, leading other Democrats by a significant margin. When voters heard just one simple message about Katie’s record taking on Trump and vision for lowering costs, her support soared to 22%—overtaking the two Republicans in the race as well.
Katie’s grassroots coalition is the largest in the race and continues to grow as voters tune into the election. Senator Warren joins other elected officials like Reps. Dave Min (CA-47) and Derek Tran (CA-45) who support Katie’s campaign. Katie is also endorsed by five statewide unions: National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), Teamsters, United Auto Workers (UAW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transit Workers Union (SMART). IBEW Local 441 and other major groups like EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Fund Her, California Women’s List, and Vote Mama PAC are backing Porter too.
