SD36 Candidate Rick Foster sent this on social media today….
After careful consideration and conversations with friends, supporters and Democratic leaders, I am suspending my campaign for State Senate District 36.
While I’m disappointed, I recognize that defeating Tony Strickland and flipping this seat requires a unified Democratic effort. I’ll be supporting the Democratic nominee in November.
This district deserves a State Senator who fights for affordable housing, protects our environment, and stands up for our most vulnerable neighbors. Those values don’t change just because I’m no longer a candidate.
I’m grateful to the Lavender Democrats of Orange County, who saw in me a champion for LGBTQ equality. To the volunteers who believed in our vision. To the donors who invested in this campaign. Thank you.
I’m proud of what we built – a campaign centered on housing justice, refugee rights, and environmental conservation. These fights continue, and I’ll keep working on them through my ongoing efforts.
I’ll continue my work providing housing for at-risk seniors and veterans, resettling refugees through You Are Safe Here, and protecting our 7,000-year-old watershed through the Coyote Creek Conservation Project. Public service takes many forms.
For my family, Orange County has been home for five generations. That doesn’t change. I remain committed to this community and to the values we share.
Thank you to everyone who supported this journey. This isn’t goodbye – it’s just a different path forward.
Onward,
