SANTA ANA, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 324 threw their support behind Santa Ana City Council Member Jessie Lopez in her campaign for California’ 68th Assembly District. UFCW’s endorsement comes on the heels of Lopez recently earning the endorsements of the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) and SMART Local 170. UFCW 324 represents thousands of workers in grocery stores, pharmacies, packinghouses, and in the healthcare industry throughout Orange County.
In reaction to the endorsement, Jessie Lopez issued the following statement:
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of UFCW 324 in our campaign to uplift the voices of Orange County’s working families. Throughout my career, I’ve taken on powerful interests to protect workers’ rights — and I’m ready to do the same in the State Assembly. I’ll fight to crack down on corporate price gouging, build more affordable housing, raise wages, and ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable healthcare.”

Born and raised in Santa Ana, Jessie is the proud daughter of immigrants from El Salvador who came to the United States seeking safety and opportunity. First elected to the Santa Ana City Council in 2020, Jessie Lopez ran on the platform of uplifting working-class families. On the City Council, she has led efforts to expand affordable housing, address homelessness, improve water quality, fund public safety, combat climate change, and deliver critical resources for local youth programs. Jessie has taken on special interests by implementing a lobbyist registry at City Hall, ensuring transparency and accountability in government, and protecting taxpayer dollars.
Now, Jessie is running for State Assembly to be a voice for working families across California. She knows firsthand the struggles of affording rent, earning a fair wage, and accessing essential services. In the State Assembly, Jessie will continue fighting to address our homelessness crisis, make housing affordable, improve wages for workers, increase investments in clean air and water, and make a quality education affordable and accessible for all.
Waaaaayyyy too many union endorsements for my liking. Always vote the opposite of how labor unions tell you to vote.
